Greenfield and electric wire in Canada

CUSTOMER: Large Electric Distribution Utility

ASSIGNMENT: Allocated Use, Asset Determination, and Billing Accuracy

CHALLENGES, OBJECTIVES, & AIMS:

Utility companies face intricate challenges in monitoring and authenticating cable and telecom attachments on shared-use poles. With the ever-evolving landscape in the field, ensuring an accurate inventory of billable attachment assets on these utility-owned structures remains elusive. This uncertainty may lead to significant potential revenue losses each year. Relying solely on manual, on-site inspections is not only cost-intensive but also time-consuming, posing inefficiencies in the process.

SOLUTION DESCRIPTION

  • Capture comprehensive 360° visuals and utilize LiDAR for overhead distribution, gathering details on every pole and associated assets.
  • Engage in advanced data analysis to identify electrical and communication space assets and their specific characteristics.
  • Align the real-time attachment information with records in the GIS and ERP systems to ascertain the quantity and variety of uncharged attachments.

IMPACT & BENEFITS

Identified, on average, 1.5 new billable assets per pole, resulting in an estimated $50M in new unbilled revenue over 10 years.
